The requirements of a CASA are:
1. Interest in the rights and needs of children.
2. Minimum age of 21
3. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
4. Ability to pass both background and State Central Record Bureau checks
Register for and Attend an Information Session
If you are interested in learning more about Passaic County CASA or becoming a volunteer, you must attend an information session. This information session will provide you with all of the information that you need to become a CASA volunteer.

Apply and Interview
All potential volunteers must complete an application, provide four references from non-family members, and be interviewed by two members of the CASA staff. In order to ensure the safety of the children, applicants will also be required to pass a series of background checks.
Training
CASA volunteers undergo a 30 hour training course. This thorough training program allows volunteers to learn about courtroom procedure, effective advocacy techniques for children, and specific topics ranging from child abuse to early childhood development and adolescent behavior.
Daytime training (Winter 2012) will begin on February 8, 2012.
It will take place on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 - 1 PM for 6 weeks.
Night time training (Spring 2012) will begin on April 23, 2012.
It will take place on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 - 8:30 PM for 4 weeks.
